Overview

The country of hills, waters and greenery – Lithuania is located on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, Northern Europe. It is one of the three Baltic States. Eligibility Criteria for study in Lithuania

1)  A valid travel document- Passport, ID card

2) Application form from the desired university

3) Document stating sufficient means of subsistence

4) Health insurance document stating insured sum of at least EUR 30,000

5) Proof of financial capability that the student can manage all of his expenses during his study period in the country

6) Higher education degree certificates

7) Fee payment receipt of the university

The aspirant should apply at least three months prior for the residence visa from the date of arrival because some documents are required to be signed, delivered, or biometric need to be done and submitted and the overall processing time varies upon the nationality of the applicant.

What after Study?

1) Once the person has completed their higher education, they can apply to change their visa to allow for work, or, apply for permanent residency. As long as the person does not have any criminal background and has marketable qualifications (i.e., they can get a job), and, they are willing to make an effort to integrate into society, there are no real obstacles to staying.

2) A student who wants to stay in Lithuania after graduating from his Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD studies will be able to apply for a temporary residence permit for job search. This permit will allow the student to stay in Lithuania for one year after graduation and start working immediately after finding a job. 

3) The international students who have completed their education in Lithuania can apply for a residence permit that has a validity of up to twelve months. This gives the students an allowance to find employment after completing their studies. After getting employment, the students can apply for a residence permit based on their employment. The students have to live for continuous five years in Lithuania before applying for permanent residency. 

4) The international students studying in Lithuania can work on a part-time basis during their enrollment in a university. The students belonging to the European Union can work full-time, up to 40 hours per week. International students can also work for 40 hours per week after obtaining a temporary residence permit. The students can complete their internships and placements as a part of their master’s degree without a work permit.

Process

1) Choose the program you wish to apply for

This is the first and most important step. Think of the profession you want to follow in the future, your strengths and qualifications and pick a program that will give you the opportunity to unravel your true potential. Lithuanian institutions offer a variety of programs in law, business, IT, social sciences, engineering and medicine. 

2) Check the admission requirements 

Each program and university have their own specific admission requirements. Conduct online research first by navigating to the official websites of the institutions and programs and contact them in case you have additional questions. Lithuanian Embassies and Consulates can also provide you with information about your studies and assist you in making a decision. 

3) Prepare the necessary documents 

This is a time-consuming step, so make sure you are well-prepared and start gathering the necessary documents as soon as possible, as you might need to translate your documents into Lithuanian in some instances. You must submit all the documents to the selected university before the deadline. Don’t forget to check the deadline for your study program as application deadlines vary depending on the university. Overall, you will need to provide the following documents:

    • A completed application form of the university of your choice.

    • Certificate of prior education (including grades), recognized by the Lithuanian Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (CQAHE).

    • A Curriculum Vitae.

    • A letter of motivation explaining why you want to study in Lithuania. 

    • A copy of your passport.

    • Passport-size photographs.

    • A receipt proving that the application and tuition fees have been paid.

    • Bank statements demonstrating sufficient funds supporting you during your studies.
