How is The PTE Scored?
The scoring in PTE is done from 10 to 90 with 10 being the lowest and 90 being the highest. Increments happen by 1 point. The grading scale showcases the test taker’s ability to read, write, speak and understand instructions given in English. Listening
- The test taker needs to prepare a summary using 50- 70 words based on the lecture he is made to listen.
- The candidate has to select the possible options from a range based on the audio one is made to hear.
- A person has to choose one option out of four rendered options for summary of the spoken excerpt.
- The audio has a few blanks which is to be filled in as the audio goes on.
- At the end of the audio shall be a beep which has four plausible options to choose from.
Reading
- There are four given options for a question which is based upon a reading extract.
- This question needs the person to re arrange a number of paragraphs in their sequential order.
- The applicant needs to drag the possible options and put them in the spaces provided.
- The candidate needs to choose from four possible options for each given blank.
- The candidate has to choose 2 or 3 correct answer from the given options based upon reading of the given extract.
Writing
- The candidate needs to present the summary of the written passage mentioning all the relevant aspects using one sentence.
- The candidate needs to write an analytical essay using 200-300 words dealing with the question prompt appropriately
- Task 1 is a report writing for the academic version while a student has to write a letter for general training version.
- Task 2 is an essay for both the versions.
Speaking
- The candidate is required to read a written excerpt from the screen. Candidate’s ability to read and speak appropriately is the tested ability.
- A sentence is being heard and the candidate needs to speak the same sentence into the microphone.
- The candidate needs to describe all the major elements of an image displayed on the screen.
- The candidate needs to answer a question based on general information or knowledge.
PTE results validity period
Often candidates are left wondering about the validity of their PTE scores. They should know that their PTE scores are valid for two years from the date of the exam. Once the two years are over, the expired PTE scores would be automatically removed from the test taker’s account.
